The original Honda Monkey bike, the CZ100 was followed in 1967 by a refined version which reflected the change that was occurring in the motorcycling world, particularly the States. When the CZ100 was introduced the model addressed the perceived need of yachtsmen, caravaners and the like who required transport for short distances that was easily stored when not in use. However, as the decade progressed the role of motorcycles changed form being that of transport to a leisure activity. The baby Honda was well placed to benefit from this change of emphasis, being easy to store, transport and ride, making it accesible to "children from 7 to 70".
In order to maximise the models appeal and counter the threat from rival manufacturers products Honda introduced the revised Z50A Minitrail in 1967. The new model adopted the single overhead cam engine employed by other "sporting" 50's in the Honda range, housed in a revised frame that accomodated eight inch wheels fitted with knobbly tyres and simple telescopic forks. Revised folding handlebars were utilised and a smaller fuel tank in proportion to the rest of the machine was employed . The result, when viewed in isolation looked (more) like a full size motorcycle and was offered in a range of attractive colours including Candy blue, Bright Yellow and Candy Red as offered here.
This example was purchased new by Swedish roadracer "Esso" Gunnarsson who used the machine as paddock transport. The recorded mileage of 66 kilometers is believed to be correct and the machine is offered with the original toolkit and owners manual.
