The Rover P4 range was extensively revised and updated from its launch as the 75 in 1950, but retained much of its bodywork in aluminium, though the doors were changed to steel near the end of production in 1964. By 1960 the range was concentrated on two models, the 2.6-litre six-cylinder 100 and the 2.3-litre four-cylinder 80. There was overdrive on top gear, and front disc brakes as standard. For 1963, the 80 was dropped and the 100 replaced with the 95, using the same 2625cc seven-bearing engine but without the overdrive. It developed 102bhp and could reach 93mph. A total of 3680 95s were produced and the last P4 built was a 95, which rolled off the line in May 1964.
This car had been in the hands of the same family since new until it was sold at auction earlier this year, and during 1995 and 1996 was "beautifully restored" according to the vendor, a job which included removing and replacing the wings, with a photographic record of the work carried out. The chrome is said to be "good" and the interior "near-perfect". The vendor further describes the car as being in "excellent overall" condition, with "unmarked" paintwork and reports it is "a delight to drive", adding that: "it has never been driven fast".
This imposing and nicely presented saloon comes with its original tool set, handbook, workshop instructions, sales invoice, logbook and all previous MOT certificates confirming that it has covered only about 69,000 miles from new, plus a spare set of keys. A landmark model from the greatest part of Rover's history - and even more appealing, a highly original example in lovely order.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
