Unveiled in prototype guise at the September 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show (but not entering production until the following August), the Porsche 911 was enthusiastically received by the contemporary motoring press. Based around a steel monocoque bodyshell equipped with all round independent torsion-bar suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes, its distinctive silhouette was the work of Ferdinand 'Butzi' Porsche and Erwin Komenada. Derived from the marque's Type 804 Grand Prix racing programme, the model's rear-mounted 1991cc flat-six engine was allied to five-speed manual transmission. Credited with 130bhp @ 6,100rpm even the very first 911s were reputedly capable of circa 130mph. Lighter and more compact than later incarnations, the O-series cars (built between August 1964 and August 1967) have long been sought after by racers and collectors alike.
We are pleased to offer for sale today a highly desirable short wheel base example. Built to left-hand drive specification during January 1967, 'NAL 146E' was supplied new via Porsche San Francisco. Well preserved by the Californian climate, the 911 later made its way to the UK. Reportedly retaining both its original Fuchs alloy wheels and factory fitted gauges, the coupe is further understood to have been restored by Formula Fuchs in the late 1990s (including an engine rebuild using 2-litre 911S barrels and pistons to enhance the performance).
Described by the vendor as a really genuine and unmolested car it is currently MOT'd until November 2007. While, the accompanying history file contains assorted photographs of the car prior to restoration and sundry servicing receipts etc. A great car to drive and an ever appreciating asset.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
