Introduced in 1950, the K2 roadster sported a revised radiator grille, usable boot, cut-away doors and Buick-esque portholes to each flank. Benefiting from the same improved Allard coil-sprung divided front axle damped via tubular shock absorbers as the J2 and P1 models, not to mention a more sophisticated Phase 2 Lockheed braking system, the newcomer was propelled by a choice of Ford 3.6 litre or Mercury 3.9 litre 'Flathead' V8 engines mated to three-speed manual transmission. Only in production until 1952, just 119 K2s are thought to have been made. Finished in Pacific Green metallic with Black leather upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example - chassis 2029 - is listed in Tom Lush's book 'Allard: The Inside Story' as being the only Allard car ever delivered new to Holland (Lush was Sydney Allard's navigator / co-driver and competitions manager). Reputedly ordered with competition in mind, its specification includes a Mercury V8 engine, De Dion back axle, Alfin-type brake drums and twin front wing-mounted spare wheels. Advertised for sale as a `Racewagen' by its previous keeper, A.M. Boomkens of Den Haag, the K2 has formed part of Dick Van Dijk's private museum collection for the past thirty years. The subject of considerable restoration work by Solent Engineering and Rod Jolley during the mid 1990s, the Roadster received attention to its engine, gearbox, bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, wheels and wiring etc. Nicely detailed, the two-seater cockpit plays host to a mixture of Cooper Stewart / 'Allard' (6,000rpm rev counter, 160kph speedometer) and Smiths (fuel, oil pressure, ammeter, water temperature) instruments as well as zip-up door pockets, scuttle vents and a fly-off handbrake. Although not currently road registered, the Allard's accompanying history file includes evidence of its previous Dutch number plate `UT-66-54' as well as an instruction book, pre-refurbishment photos, numerous restoration invoices and sundry paperwork.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
