Unique to the 1985 season, the Honda Gold Wing Limited Edition GL1200L was a very special machine. Conceived as the ultimate touring motorcycle, its double-cradle frame was equipped with 41mm telescopic front forks (incorporating TRAC anti-dive) and adjustable air suspension. Powered by a liquid-cooled, opposed four-cylinder 1182cc engine featuring computerized fuel injection, solid state ignition, hydraulic valve adjustment and a hydraulic clutch, it employed five-speed, shaft-drive transmission. Reined in by a triple-disc braking system (dual ventilated front, single rear) and electronic cruise control, the GL1200L was reputedly capable of nearly 120mph. Only available in Sunflash Gold Metallic over Valiant Brown, it was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the US highway.
