1962 Ferrari 250 GTE
- 1 of just 950 examples made
- Long term previous ownership
- Retrimmed interior and in fine mechanical order
The 250 GTE was the first proper production four seater Ferrari to be made in any numbers, and extra interior space was gained by moving the engine further forward in the frame.
Strictly a 2+2 the rear seats were really only suitable for children but close on 1000 cars were made, bodied by Pinin Farina and they sold successfully from 1959 to 1963 before the introduction of the 330 Series.
Priced in period at 11,500 USD, the success of the model brought an important flow of cash into Ferraris coffrs.
Unloved for many years, many cars finished their lives as donors for a plethora of 250 SWB and Testa Rossa replicas, sharing all major mechanical components with both and in the case of the SWB it was a relatively easy task to shorten the chassis.
However, now seen in it's true light, the car is regarded as an important part of Ferrari's history, with top cars fetching up to £500,000 and this makes the car we have for sale a very attractive proposition.
