Two fantastic examples of British engineering and design from the 1930s that can still set pulses racing nearly 100 years later. The Vincent 1000 and the Supermarine Spitfire were both first seen in 1936 and at the time were at the absolute forefront of engineering excellence.

The Vincent ‘met’ the Spitfire at the recent H&H sale at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. The bike seen here is a 1953 Series C Black Shadow that will be offered for sale by H and H Classic Auctions in their next sale at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on the 27th October for an estimate of £45,000 to £55,000.

Ian Cunningham of H&H Classics says: “The Spitfire is probably the most famous aircraft ever made and set new standards of performance that helped change the history of the world. The Vincent motorcycle could proudly claim to be the fastest road legal vehicle money could buy and it took the introduction of the E-Type Jag in 1961 before a car could match its top speed."
