1965 JAGUAR E-TYPE CAMPAIGNED BY SIR STIRLING MOSS JOINS THE H&H CLASSICS MOTOR SPORT HALL OF FAME AUCTION

The very first Jaguar E-Type driven competitively by Sir Stirling Moss goes to auction with H&H Classics on June 5th at RAC Woodcote Park. It is estimated to sell for £110,000 to £130,000.

The car utilises many original components including an aluminium ‘Abbey Panels’ bonnet reputedly originally fitted to Sir Robert Ropner's factory 'lightweight'. The vehicle also features a 4.2 Litre engine, and 5-speed Getrag gearbox.

A standard Jaguar E-Type Roadster, it was turned into a road-going lightweight racer by Jeremy Broad, the well-known Jaguar specialist, in the 1980s. The car was loaned to Sir Stirling Moss in 1991 to compete in the Manx Mountain Challenge, partnered by Mike McCarthy, the then Editor of Classic and Sports Car Magazine. Although Moss started his career as a Jaguar works driver, competing with success on the race circuits and rally stages in C-types and XK120s, he never competed in an E-Type during their heyday. Thus, this car was the first E-Type that Sir Stirling drove competitively.

The car was later raced by Le Mans and touring car legend Win Percy, who qualified 3rd in the 40th anniversary race for E-Type Jaguars at Donington Park, 2001. Last year Sir Stirling Moss, now in his late 80’s, retired from public life.

H&H Classics is the auction partner for the Motorsport Hall of Fame, an occasion that honours drivers that are universally admired.

This sale brings H&H Classics growing success to an international audience and as Woodcote Park is close to the company’s Hindhead office that is a bonus.

Taking place on June 4th (the evening before the auction) the Motor Sport Hall of Fame Dinner celebrates the greatest names in racing across F1, Motorcycling, Sports Cars, and other disciplines.
