Buying at auction with H&H Classics

Buyer Information

With the rapid-fire patter of the auctioneer, the subtle nods, raised hands or waived catalogues of the bidders and the echo of the hammer falling, a live auction is an exciting place to be. Even if you're following and bidding online on our website or by phone there’s still the thrill of the chase, the chance you could grab a bargain or beat another bidder to your prize.

Our Classic Auctions take place at The Imperial War Museum, Duxford, the National Motorcycle Museum, West Midlands and the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton. Bidding at our Classic Auctions is available live in person at the venue, online on this website, by telephone or via commission bids. To register to bid at one of our Classic Auctions simply click Register To Bid/Sign In at the top of the page.

Our Online Auctions are conducted to the same high standards as our Classic Auctions and your dream classic car or motorcycle could be just a click or phone call away. To register to bid in one of our Online Auctions simply click Register To Bid/Sign In at the top of the page.

Before the auction

When you arrive at the auction you will need to register as a bidder and provide photo identification. Online bidders can register for an account at any time prior to the auction commencing by clicking Register To Bid/Sign In at the top of the page.

You’ll probably already have an idea of what you’re interested in, but our auction catalogue and online listings will give you lots of valuable information about the classic motorcar or motorbike that takes your fancy. For Online Auctions, there are of course photographs and video footage to study and you can always ask our specialists questions before the bidding starts.

If you’re attending one of our Classic Auctions in person then you will be able to inspect every lot that’s for sale and take a look at any supporting paperwork in the Documents Office. If you can’t make it to the venue then you can request Condition Reports and additional photographs.

At the auction

Now comes the fun part – bidding. If you’re bidding online via our website then just watch and click, if you’re on the telephone then simply tell your representative when to bid and if you’re in the crowd then you’ll need to make sure the auctioneer can spot you. Usually, a little wave should do the trick. Once the auctioneer has taken your bid then they will always come back to you to increase it if you've been outbid. Don’t worry you won’t be forgotten!

Another way to bid if you can’t attend the auction is to place a Commission Bid, which is essentially the highest price you’re willing to pay. If your Commission Bid is higher than the last bid at the auction then the lot is yours to keep. To place a commission bid simply call us prior to the auction commencing on 01925 210035 or via email sales@HandH.co.uk
