Lot details Registration No: BPE721B Chassis No: GHN332418 Mot Expiry: Aug 2013
Initially, the B was only available in Roadster form - the hatchback GT derivative not being offered until 1965. Suspension was by wishbones and coil springs at the front and a live axle mounted on leaf springs at the rear. Damping was by lever arm units all round. Braking was by discs at the front and drums at the rear. At launch, the model was powered by a three-bearing version of the 1798cc B-Series engine that produced 95bhp at 5,400rpm. However, with an eye on superior reliability, this unit was replaced by a five-bearing one two years into production. By the time the Roadster line was closed in 1980, a total of 399,070 are said to have been produced; a large proportion of which are still providing good service today - not least in historic racing and rallying.
Finished in Green with Black leather upholstery, 'BPE 721B' dates from 1964 and is understood to be a desirable matching numbers 'pull handle' Roadster. It has been the subject of considerable work in recent times, including: bare metal respray; replacement of the brightwork, hood, wheels, tyres, seats, door cards and carpets; extensive refurbishment of the engine and the fitting of a stainless exhaust system; overhaul of the brakes and suspension. The vendor now describes the bodywork, interior trim and engine as "excellent" and the paintwork and transmission as "very good". A smart-looking example of this ever popular classic that's MOT'd until the end of August 2013.
