Lot details Registration No: BWS 766S Chassis No: 2H2464BW Mot Expiry: Jan 2005
Issued with MAN 409U plates in the Isle of Man 1 January 1978, this 1977-manufactured Daimler Series 2 Sovereign is believed to be one of only six such 4-2-litre coupes registered during 1978. First owned by a senior official of the Manx Government, the 2-door fixed head, now with year appropriate UK registration, has been in the current ownership of a professional engineer, a Jaguar Enthusiast Club member, since March 1983.
According to the vendor, the 6-cylinder engine shows 40psi oil pressure whilst idling when hot and oil consumption is minimal. The automatic transmission has been in receipt of routine maintenance, he says. Whilst fitted are twin Kenlowe electric fans, similar to the set-up on the Series 3, Piranha electronic ignition, 80amps alternator, matched set of four Cibie halogen headlamps, two Bosch high intensity rear foglamps and upgraded radio-cassette with separate 4-channel amplifier.
Repainted in original Squadron Blue in 1999, the bodywork, restored at the same time with cavities treated with Waxoyl, is claimed to be unmarked and the original black vinyl roof covering undamaged. The bumpers have been rechromed. The original leather, treated regularly with hide food, shows little wear, the original woodwork is unmarked and the carpets were replaced in 1999. Rear brake discs and suspension bearings were replaced in 2000 and front springs renewed in 2002.
The latest full service was carried out by Sovereign Motors of Bristol in January 2004 and the latest MOT certificate is current until next January.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
