  Lot 9

1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Lot details
Registration No: WVO717G
Chassis No: 194679S734222
Mot Expiry: June 2013

The third generation Corvette (C3) came to market in 1968. While the engine and chassis components were mostly carried over from the very successful C2, the interior and striking bodywork were all new. The exterior design was a development of that penned by Larry Shinoda under the guidance of Bill Mitchell for the Mako Shark II concept car. The newcomer - christened 'Stingray' - was steadily developed over its 14-year production reign, during which sales of the Coupe tended to outstrip those of the Convertible - as a result, the value of the open cars is now usually far higher than those of the closed ones. The ladder-type chassis was broadly as created for the C2 by Zora Arkus-Duntov - the most significant element of which was the independent rear suspension that featured lateral struts, radius rods and a transverse leaf spring.

This 'Vette vacated the production line on June 10th 1969 and is one of just 873 produced in Riverside Gold and one of 16,633 Convertible versions of the car built that year - the interior is equipped with the standard Black vinyl trim and the detachable hardtop is also coloured Black. The total cost of the car new was $5,133.00, which included the following options: L-46 350ci/5.7litre 350hp Turbo Jet V8 engine ($131), G-81 Positraction axle ($46), M-21 Four-speed close ratio manual transmission ($184), PT-7 White wall tyres ($31), U-69 Radio AM/FM push-button ($172), J-50 Power Steering ($105) and U-86 Audio Alarm ($26). Copy photos in the accompanying history file indicate that the two-seater underwent a body-off restoration around 2003, since when it has been driven a mere 1,000 miles or so. Now UK registered as 'WVO 717G', the Stingray is being sold complete with a framed copy of the original order form, reprinted 1969 Corvette owner's manual and current tax and MOT.

PLEASE NOTE: The registration document for this vehicle is currently with the DVLA.
