The vendor of this 1967-built Austin Mini Cooper 1275 S tells us that the right-hand vehicle was originally a police car in Glasgow. In 1994, the two-door sports saloon was the subject of a bare metal renovation by specialist Trevor Godwin of Coventry Automotive and is presented today as a fully street legal rally car, which, unusually for a Mk2 shelled-Mini, is HRCR/MSA pre-31/12/1967 Historic category eligible.
We are told that the power unit is a 1293cc capacity S engine with big-valve cylinder head and rally camshaft. Fitted are an Aldon distributor, a pair of 1½ in SU carbs, Bendix fuel pumps and an oil cooler. The clutch plate is heavy-duty, the gearbox straight-cut and close-ratio, and the driveshafts competition-spec.
The impressive specification includes alloys, full roll cage by Safety Devices, sump guard, Kevlar battery box protector, laminated screen, Perspex windows, Magnum FIA-spec bucket seats, full harnesses, adjustable tie-rods, adjustable alloy rear arms, Koni shock absorbers, front to back electrical wiring and hydraulic pipework inside the shell, twin fuel tanks, works-style dash, Halda trip, fly-off handbrake and lamp bar. Currently, body panels and black and white paintwork are described by the vendor as being in good condition, whilst engine, transmission and electrical equipment are all said to be in good order. Among paperwork promised, and the items can be checked out in our Documents Office at Buxton, are an RAC Special Stage logbook, a Heritage Certificate confirming manufacturing details and an MOT certificate valid until next November.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
