Nobody was more pleased at the 1955 launch of the T-Bird than the American Ford dealers, who were desperate to have something to provide competition for GMs racy Corvette. The 1956 version is the rarest of all classic Thunderbirds, with a production of just 15,631 units. The left-hand drive example on offer is equipped with the optional 312ci (5.1-litre) V8 engine driving through 'Ford-O-Matic' automatic transmission. 'RVS 236' was originally painted Raven Black over Colonial White and trimmed in Black and White, and it is thought the current eye-catching livery of White over Blue and Blue leather upholstery was created prior to the car's arrival on these shores in 1990. The vendor currently regards the bodywork and paintwork as 'excellent' and the interior trim as being 'almost like new'. He is now offering this rare item of Americana complete with detachable hardtop, relevant owner's handbook and Ford 1956 model range brochure.
