Lot details Registration No: VPT 334 Chassis No: S904171 Mot Expiry: Exempt
The increase in capacity prompted by Jaguar's move to Browns Lane in 1951 allowed the company to consider attacking the market for mid-sized saloons then dominated by Rover, Humber and Standard. The resulting weapon, the MKI, was the firm's first unitary construction model and brought a new level of style and performance to the sector, resulting in immediate success - 37,397 examples were made between 1955 and 1959.
'VPT 334' has clearly benefited from restoration at some stage and is presented in Dark Blue teamed with Blue interior trim. The original 2.4-litre XK engine has at some stage been supplanted by a 3.4-litre one. The vendor acquired the Jaguar in July 2013 and currently classes the bodywork, paintwork and six-cylinder engine as 'excellent', and the interior trim and four-speed manual gearbox as 'good'. This tidy-looking MKI is being sold complete with full length sunroof and period wing mirrors and Lucas auxiliary lights.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
