The DB2/4 offered here, a MkI with Frank Feeley styled fixed head coupe body, was originally built at Aston Martin's then Feltham factory in 1955. We understand that bike and car World Champion John Surtees was the car's third owner. From the 1960s, however, until three years ago, XYE 226 was owned by leading marque specialist, the late Jack Moss, whose Four Ashes Garage near Stratford-Upon-Avon has restored and continues to look after so many of these early Feltham-made Astons. Indeed, during his ownership, the distinguished motor engineer also rebuilt his own motor car, so it is certain that all the work has been carried out to a very high standard and the car will have been really well sorted.
Very little used since this rebuild apparently, the current condition of the separate chassis and Mulliner-crafted aluminium coachwork, both of which have been refurbished, are described as being like new. Paintwork in Rolls Royce Regal Red and tan leather interior are said to be mint too. The 3-litre six and all the electrical equipment are reportedly in good order and the speed manual gearbox has been rebuilt. Unlike the bonnet arrangements on the MK2 and 3 models, MkI owners also have the benefit of really super accessibility for most mechanical items thanks to the whole of the front section of the bodywork hinging forwards. The MOT test certificate with the car is current until September. Highly recommended.
