Lot details Registration No: DKO 933 Chassis No: 702255 Mot Expiry: Nov 2007
Introduced at the October 1933 London Motor Show, the Rover 'P2' model range continued in production up until 1947 by which time some 69,000 examples had been built. An essentially conservative design, it was nevertheless well engineered and quickly acquired a reputation for both quality and comfort. Launched alongside its six-cylinder siblings, the four-cylinder 10hp 'P2' utilised a new 1389cc OHV engine. Producing some 44bhp and driving through a four speed manual gearbox, it gave a highly respectable top speed of some 65mph. All round semi-elliptic leaf springs and Girling rod operated drum brakes kept the underslung chassis in check.
Finished in black with brown leather upholstery, this particular example has reputedly been owned by the same family since March 1st 1937. On the basis 'DKO 933' has done just 7,000 miles in the last twenty-eight years (or so an accompanying run of old MOTs would imply), the vendor further believes that the 38,000 miles shown by its odometer may represent the total covered from new. Apparently "running and driving", the Rover is said to be "a very original old car with delightfully patinated interior". The subject of recent recommissioning work, it is hoped that this "sweet old timewarp car" will possess a new MOT certificate by the time of sale. While existing paperwork includes an owners manual and registration document (the latter reportedly indicating that 'DKO 933' is a transferable number plate).
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
