Lot details Registration No: K405EYF Chassis No: WDB1260242A601896 Mot Expiry: Sept 2007
Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1979, the new W126 S-class was a quantifiable improvement over its W116 predecessor. Lauded by the contemporary motoring press as the 'best car in the world', it was not only lighter than its forebear but also offered an improved ride and sharper handling. Styled by Bruno Sacco, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of powerful all alloy V8 engines (later supplemented by more fuel efficient straight-sixes). Still a staple part of many a diplomatic fleet, the W126 remains sought after to this day thanks to its impeccable build quality and timeless lines.
Finished in silver with black cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 2962cc straight-six engine, four-speed automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. First registered on August 1st 1992, 'K405 EYF' has been in the current ownership for the last two years. Believed but not warranted to have covered 101,489 miles from new (a figure reportedly substantiated by "full service history"), it rides on alloy wheels. Potentially great value, this luxurious four-door saloon is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until September 27th 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
