The final version of the MG Midget was powered by a 1491cc 4-cylinder engine which was also employed by Triumph to fit under the bonnet of their Spitfire 1500. Manufactured between 1974 and 1979, this last Midget model could be distinguished from earlier models by having practical, hard wearing and corrosion resistant bumpers in black plastic, which were also necessary if the sportscar was going to comply with the latest US impact regulations.
Offered here is a 1978-built example in black with black interior which has the benefit of a large history file. The vendor believes that the 99,000 miles displayed when entered to be the genuine total mileage. The fully restored bodywork, above and below, is described as being in good condition, the paintwork also good, and the trim and hood excellent having been renewed. Engine and gearbox have been reconditioned and the electrical equipment is reportedly in good order. A Midget 1500 is also one of the few classics that can perform well as both a weekender or as a daily driver.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
