Lot details Registration No: ETY 8E Chassis No: 1S1721BW Mot Expiry: March 2015
Only in production from February 1971 to June 1974, just 1,872 right-hand drive Jaguar E-type Series 3 V12 Roadsters were made. According to its accompanying JDHT Certificate, chassis 1S1721BW was completed on 24th January 1973 and supplied new via Henlys of London. Entering the current ownership some twenty-four years later, the two-seater was entrusted to marque specialist Michael Fare of Preston for a meticulous `ground up' refurbishment. Photographically documented, the work included extensive bodywork repairs and a return to the car's original Signal Red livery. Converted from automatic to four-speed manual transmission, the Jaguar also gained a Moto Lita steering wheel, modern fuel pump (complete with isolator switch), Black leather upholstery, chrome wire wheels and carbon fibre brake pads. Thoroughly overhauled, its factory-fitted V12 engine is still carburettor-fed but exhales through a stainless steel exhaust. A measure of Mr Fare's care and attention to detail, he reportedly rejected seven or eight new bonnets before accepting the one which currently adorns the Roadster. Submitted for its first post-restoration MOT test with a zeroed odometer on May 10th 2000, the E-type has since covered some 20,000 miles. Returned to Michael Fare for routine servicing, winter storage and MOT testing etc, the past few years have also seen chassis 1S1721BW treated to an external repaint, renewed braided fuel lines and most recently the engine out replacement of a gearbox oil seal and sundry bushes (March 2014). Performing well on a recent test drive with the vendor at the helm, he rates the Jaguar's engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork as all `very good'. Passing its last MOT test on March 19th 2014 with no advisories, this much loved E-type is offered for sale complete with distinctive `ETY8E' number plate, copy restoration photos, assorted invoices, original steering wheel, tailor-made dust cover and current road fund licence (for which it will very soon not have to pay).
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
