Lot details Registration No: OYL574L Chassis No: BFATMK00350 Mot Expiry: None
This three-owner car was campaigned in the 1974 World Cup Rally (entry 53, with Fred Potter and John Payne-Benstead, retiring in Tunis). The Escort was bought by the vendor as a barn find in 2010 and following being stripped to a bare shell and sandblasted it has since been restored with new sills, floors, wings and front panel. The Ford retains its original World Cup crossmember and the 1600 GT crossflow engine breathes through twin Weber DCOE40s and out via a four-branch manifold and Ashley competition exhaust. Oil is kept where it should be in a big-winged baffled sump, the Bilstein struts have been refurbished and wear new springs, and the spec includes a Magard sump guard and spot lamp bracket, plus three-rail 2000E gearbox. An ideal basis for a historic rally car.
