The Dagenham-built Ford Cortina was launched in 1962, though only with 1198 or 1498cc engine options for the nation's sales reps. Motor sports enthusiasts started taking the model seriously, though, when the 83bhp GT Cortina with front disc brakes started to appear on rallies in large numbers. Outright wins by the Cortina became common with the 105bhp Lotus twin-cam powered Mk1 and Mk2 shelled twin cam that followed.
The Ford Cortina Lotus Mk2 offered here, a 1970-manufactured righthand drive 2-door saloon, is genuinely in excellent condition, says the vendor. The underside of the bodyshell is said to be very good and the panels excellent. Both Blue Mink paintwork and black interior are very good, too, whilst 1.6-litre 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly also in good order.
Apart from a workshop manual, the documents file with the car contains old MOT certificates from 1975 onwards, confirming the 44,922 miles displayed when entered to be the correct total from new, while the latest MOT is current until December.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
