Lot details Registration No: KXK 190 Chassis No: 620588 Mot Expiry: April 2005
Postwar, under their post-SS and politically necessary new company name of Jaguar Cars Limited, three essentially prewar designs of pushrod engine were used, the 1767cc 4-cylinder power unit from nearby Standard and Jaguar's own 2.5-litre (actually of 2664cc capacity) and 3.3-litre (3485cc) sixes. The transmission used by William Lyons for his MkIV was a 4-speed manual gearbox and the brakes were mechanical until the MkV replacement arrived in 1948.
Produced in saloon or drophead form, with 2664cc or 3485cc engine options, the superseded model's bodywork was transformed by the improved forward forward vision and the addition of most attractive rear wheel covering spats. The most important improvements, however, were to be found beneath the skin, with independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes which transformed the driveability.
The entrant of this 1949-built MkV tells us that his very stylish saloon has been fully rebuilt over the last eight years, with all the bills in the car's history file substantiating and detailing the work carried out. More recently, a change has been made to an unleaded fuel accommodating cylinder head, the 3.5-litre 6-cylinder motor reportedly being in good order, while KXK 190 is said by the owner to an excellent driving car. The chassis and the body are said to be in good condition, with the red over black paintwork and the grey trimmed interior both good too. The current MOT test certificate will not need renewing until next April.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
