Particularly aimed at the American market, the immortally striking Karmann Ghia was Volkswagen's answer to creating a halo model for its unashamedly austere Beetle range. Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet guise, it was styled by Luigi Segre of Carrozzeria Ghia and hand-built around Beetle mechanicals by the famed German coachbuilder Karmann - hence the name. The sale Coupe hails from 1971 and is finished in Red with a contrasting Black interior. It has had four owners from new, the last of whom, a professional mechanic, acquired it in 1982 and is understood to have maintained it to a high standard. The VW is powered by the later 1.6-litre 60bhp engine, which the vendor considers to be 'excellent' (along with the four-speed manual transmission), while he regards the bodywork, paintwork and interior trim as 'very good'. 'FTX 784K' comes complete with all MOTs dating back to 1989 and a large quantity of spares.
