Lot details Registration No: 246 HVO Chassis No: TS77604 Mot Expiry: June 2008
Final evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. Great fun to drive, its tough boxed section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing some 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 104mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition.
Finished in white with black ambla upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Entering the current ownership in 1976, '246 HVO' was supposedly treated to an extensive engine overhaul the following year. Said to have covered "approximately 8,000 miles since" and to have seen "dry use only", it rides on steel wheels. Reportedly "stored in a heated garage", this appealing Triumph is offered for sale with MOT certificate and historic class (free) road tax both valid until June 2008.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
