Lot details Registration No: KGH683A Chassis No: B380FV Mot Expiry: Sept 2004
With its 4257cc capacity motor, this early Bentley is known as the small bore MkVI. Since the 6 December 1949 first registration, there have been five owners. It has most recently been in the ownership of the late President of the West Midlands Section of the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club and was purchased by him in December 1997, since when extensive work has been carried out including a full engine rebuild with a reconditioned and pressure-tested cylinder head. Water pump, thermostat and distributor were renewed, an electric fan added to better cope with slow moving modern traffic, and the brakes and servo overhauled and the shoes relined.
The condition of 4-door factory standard steel saloon bodywork, Georgian Grey over Silver Grey paintwork and Mid Grey leather interior with blue carpets are currently described as being very good. The upholstery was professionally refurbished at 99,000 miles when the rear bumper was renewed, the front suspension bushes being replaced shortly afterwards. Both 4.2-litre 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are said to be in excellent order.
The 101,445 mileage displayed when entered is reckoned to be from new, the MOT is current until September and it qualifies for a tax exempt annual disc. After the DUD 99 cherished registration was retained by a previous owner and the current KGH 683A issued, the DVLA advised the last owner's son that the car would be eligible for an age-related registration. It is registered with both the RREC and Bentley MkVI Registrars.
