Lot details Registration No: XYY 1H Chassis No: GID57285BW Mot Expiry: Jan 2005
Following the 1956-launched new generation of smaller unitary-construction saloons, a new altogether larger saloon model, the MkX, came to market in 1961. Again with unitary-construction, the super-saloons were completely restyled and had coil spring front suspension, E-Type independent rear suspension and power steering as standard. From 1964, the 4235cc engine was fitted and, from 1966, the car became the 420 G.
This 420G with factory fit electric windows and heated rear screen first left the Browns Lane works in Coventry in 1969 and was purchased by the vendor in 1998, when, he says, the 4-door sports saloon was still in original condition. Over a 5-year period, it was then mechanically and cosmetically refurbished and is said now to be in very nice condition. The righthand drive car clearly works well, too, for it successfully completed a 1000 miles round trip to the 2002 Le Mans, during which it averaged 16 miles to the gallon.
Included with the car is good service history and the original tool kit is said to be intact. The bodyshell is described as being in excellent condition, with panels painted Regency Red and beige leather interior reportedly very good. Both 4.2-litre 6-cylinder engine and automatic transmission are reportedly in good order. The 119,000 miles displayed when entered for this auction is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the XYY 1H from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
