Lot details Registration No: E267LYK Chassis No: WBAK620608804782 Mot Expiry: Oct 2006
Introduced in June 1981, the second generation BMW 5 series (E28) was visually indebted to its Paul Bracq styled predecessor. Boasting a shortened wheelbase and lower stance, its four-door monocoque bodyshell was equipped with all round independent suspension (Macpherson strut front / semi-trailing arm rear) and power assisted worm and roller steering. Available with a choice of punchy four- and six-cylinder engines, the E28 was a suitably sporty alternative to the Mercedes-Benz W123 range. Updated in 1985 with a revised version of BMW's renowned M20 six-cylinder unit, the 520i proved a continual best seller.
Finished in dark grey metallic with grey check cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its automatic gearbox, electric windows, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Believed but not warranted to have covered 119,300 miles from new, it is said to have had "five former keepers" and to have undergone "two cambelt changes one at 46,000 miles and the other at 94,000 miles". Stated to possess "excellent bodywork with no rust or dents", it has apparently "just had a service". Dating from the last year of E28 production, this practical 520i saloon is offered for sale with "BMW Service History up to 28,000 miles, two previous MOTs, original owners handbooks" and current MOT certificate valid until 31st October 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
