1968 Russell Alexis MK 14 Formula Ford Single Seater
Lot details Registration No: N/A Chassis No: AT/FF24 Mot Expiry: N/A
Alex Francis first automotive creations were trials specials, his first built in 1953 being for his own use and his last was the end of a small production batch of 2-seater trials cars made in 1964, when he and Bill Harris went into Formula Junior single-seater racing car construction. After Harris returned to Australia, Allan Taylor took his place and helped build up the marque into becoming a leading racing car builder during the second half of the 1960s.
Alexis made F3 and F2 cars, too, their high point being Aussie Paul Hawkins F2 win at the Eifelrennen in 1965. Their most successful venture, however, was a tie-up with the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, which led to the production of fifty seven Russell-Alexis Formula Fords in 1967-1968.This Mk14 version of the Russell-Alexis Formula Ford, originally made locally in Coleshill in 1968, was restored some five years ago after twenty years in barn storage by historic racer Alan Bailey and has passed through the hands of interesting race car dealer Chris Alford. Since restoration, this period-correct FF has only seen competition exercise in two shakedown runs up the Wiscombe Park hillclimb course and is only being auctioned today due to his being fully occupied competing in other historic racing series.
Apart from being in A1 cosmetic condition with first class paintwork and reported good mechanical order, this good looking and potentially competitive historic Formula Ford has the benefit of retaining the original chassis plate which has been correctly stamped 'AT/FF24'.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
