Lot details Registration No: 300 ABD Chassis No: 205181DN Mot Expiry: Sept 2014
Featuring notably slimmer roof pillars than its MKI forebear, the immortal Jaguar MKII was as airy on the inside as it was elegant on the outside. Its monocoque bodyshell was equipped with independent coil-sprung front suspension and a well-located live rear axle, 12-inch disc brakes all round and recirculating ball steering. The model could be specified with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8-litre version of Jaguar's race-proved, DOHC inline, six-cylinder XK engine. The interior was quintessentially British with its sumptuous leather-covered seats, polished wood facia and door cappings, comprehensive instrumentation and impressive row of auxiliary toggle switches. The attention to detail and build quality of the MKII were remarkable for the price. Equipped with the 220bhp 3.8-litre engine, the Jaguar was capable of sprinting to 60mph in 8.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 125mph. Some 30,141 3.8s were produced between 1959 and 1967.
A highly desirable 'home market' manual / overdrive car that retains its original 3.8 litre engine block, chassis 205181DN was formerly the property of King Hussein of Jordan. Midway through a 'no expense spared nut-and-bolt restoration' at the time of the king's untimely demise, its refurbishment was completed by the vendor who chose to upgrade '300 ABD' with an alternator, Hi Torque starter motor, stainless steel exhaust system, electric power steering and Coopercraft brakes. This most eye-catching of period Jaguars is finished in the classic mix of Gunmetal Grey Metallic bodywork and Red leather interior. It is being sold complete with Heritage Certificate and numerous receipts for work carried out. The odometer currently shows an unwarranted 37,616 miles and this extremely charismatic cat is MOT'd into September and taxed until the end of November. Finding a new home for this feline will surely be little problem.
