Lot details Registration No: UEY609V Chassis No: GHD5-496703G Mot Expiry: May 2006
The MGB is and always has been a very popular car. With sales of more than 500,000 during its eighteen year production run, it outlasted and outsold that other icon of 1960s British motoring, the Jaguar E-Type. Introduced in 1965, some three years after its roadster sister, the GT was an altogether more practical proposition. Capable of year round use, it also boasted greater interior space and more relaxed high speed cruising. An enjoyable drive with a surprisingly modern feel thanks to its capable chassis and rack and pinion steering, it represents one of the most inexpensive ways to enjoy classic motoring.
Finished in vermillion red with silver / black cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being "a very clean, straight late model MGB GT". Reported to have had five previous recorded owners, the last one apparently treating it to new sills, front wings and a repaint, recent work has seen it fitted with a new clutch, exhaust system, rear springs and professionally refurbished Rostyle wheels. Said to benefit from a functioning overdrive (on its manual gearbox) and a stereo cassette player, the present keeper believes but does not warrant that the 74,000 miles shown on its odometer represents the total covered from new. Offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until May 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
