H&H are indebted to the vendor for the following description: "The present owner purchased the car in 2005 from a heated garage in Wimbledon London following the death of its previous keeper. Although found to be in excellent order the Cooper was given an engine overhaul by expert JAP speedway engine tuner Guy Allott and thoroughly checked over. For the next three years the car competed successfully at various hillclimbs such as Shelsley Walsh and the Cooper 60th Anniversary Meeting at Prescott, never having a failed run. The car's early 1960s history is remembered by several 500 Owners Association members including the original registrar. It is believed but not warranted that the car was one of three Cooper MkV cars which were raced in the 1960s by a group of 500 O.A. founders - one of which is still competing at Goodwood. Among many original features the presence of a green leather seat may suggest that the single-seater once belonged to Sir Francis Williamson (as history has it that his cars carried green seats).
In the records it can be seen that the MkV was bought during 1976 by German Grass track rider Peter Zollner who took it to Germany pending a restoration which he never got round to. Englishman Ian Scott purchased the Cooper in 1990 and carefully restored it using original components to accurate original specification. Before racing it FIA papers were obtained (they expired in 2006 but remain on file). The MkV is also accompanied by a current MSA Logbook not to mention a detailed racing history covering events in both 1995 (Goodwood, Silverstone, Oulton Park, Mallory Park, Castle Combe) and 1996 (Snetterton, Silverstone, Oulton Park, Mallory Park, Castle Combe). Subject to the appropriate invitation being issued, this F3 single-seater is of a type that will be competing at Goodwood next year. The Cooper comes with a large selection of gear combinations and spares comprising wishbones, shocks, leaf springs, etc. and is ready to race. While, good will and advice will be supplied free of charge".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
