Lot 69 - 1967 Alvis TF21 Saloon

1967 Alvis TF21 Saloon

Sold for £10,125

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: OMP151E
Chassis No: 27421
Mot Expiry: Jan 2005

There were just 106 examples of the final 3-litre Alvis model made and the TF21's were all built with triple carbs and raised compression, which increased bhp from (of the TD/TE's of 115/130) to 150, and the top speed to 120mph. Having instruments in front of the driver, heated rear screen, power-steering and automatic transmission with constantly variable manual control gave a large degree of driver control over changes.
Owned for two years by Alvis (when registered JDU 916E), this 1967 Park Ward bodied right-hand drive two-door has been vendor owned since 1973, since when it has been well maintained by owner and Red Triangle with occasional bodywork refurbishment over the years by Contract Paint of Andover.
The engine maintains 50/60lbs oil pressure when hot and, thanks to cleaned out waterways, does not overheat. Upgrades include unleaded head and Coopercraft four-pot disc brakes (with standard rear disc brakes and brake servo replaced).
Work in 2000 included repairs to front roll bar brackets, front suspension overhaul, rear springs renewal and new stainless steel silencers. Both screens were replaced in 2003, the front with laminated, and roof repainted. More recently, new metal has been employed for the front lamp surrounds and Webasto sunroof recovered. Body panels are said to be good and paintwork very good, the front seats, still in original peony leather, and carpets are tired but the back seat and all other leather is good.
OMP 151E has been well known in Alvis Club circles, providing enjoyable family transport as well as serving well on both UK and European holidays and even a trip to New England in the US in 2000. MOT certificates go back to 1982.
