Lot details Registration No: EYY 38J Chassis No: CCN12303G Mot Expiry: Jan 2005
The 118mph C first appeared in MG showrooms in 1967, employing the same bodyshell as the 1.8-litre powered B, but with the increased weight of a 3-litre engine at the front, and torsion bar rather than coil sprung front suspension.
Auctioned here is a 1968-manufactured right hand drive MGC, originally supplied by main agents University Motors and enhanced by a Stage 3 conversion from those celebrated tuning wizards of BMC motor cars, Downton Engineering. We understand that the 3-litre motor has been further converted to better accommodate unleaded fuel. Apart from lots of history, also on file are bills charting work carried out. Equipped with the preferred and much better looking knock-on wire wheels and a boot-mounted chrome luggage rack, the 2-seater sports is finished in blue with a black trim, while a blue hood and tonneau cover make up the weather equipment.
The vendor describes the current overall condition of this Abingdon sports-car as being restored and excellent, with open bodywork, paintwork and interior all very good. Both 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive are reportedly in good order too, whilst the current MOT does not expire until next January 2005.
With an unstressed six under the bonnet, a standard C make a superb and effortless road car; this example being even more desirable thanks to those tweaks. As the vendor says, this would indeed appear to be "a lovely motor car", which should equip itself well up the hills and around the sprint circuits.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
