Lot details Registration No: WAS 786 Chassis No: B282LJ Mot Expiry: None
Launched in 1946, the Bentley MkVI saloon shared its 4257cc engine with owners Rolls-Royce's Silver Wraith, the six having an inlet valve over exhaust valve layout, though the Bentley was equipped with higher lift cam and twin carbs. Unlike the Wraith, which could still be supplied in rolling chassis form to coachbuilders, eighty per cent of all MkVIs were supplied with standard four-door saloon bodywork in steel made by Pressed Steel of Oxford and finished by Rolls in the Crewe works. The same body and engine were employed by R-R for their Silver Dawn from 1949.
This 1951-built Bentley MkVI saloon, finished in black with tan leather, is apparently a two-owner car, the first being Colonel Sir John Kent and the second the vendor's father, who paid £1500 for it at auction in 1960, the car being in same family ownership since. We are told that it was used until the 1980s, since when it has been stored. The car is claimed to have been chauffeur maintained for the first 45,000 miles, the 63,099 miles displayed when entered said to be the genuine total from new.
The four-door bodywork is said to be very original with some paint blemishes.. Both undamaged leather as well as carpets are claimed to be original, albeit would benefit from renewal. Standard factory-fitted sunroof and original push-button radio are still present. Current condition of chassis is said to be good, body panels and paintwork fair, whilst both motor and four-speed manual gearbox are reportedly good.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is a non runner.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
