The Bayerische Motoren Werke first made WW1 aircraft engines and then, from 1923, motorcycles. It was only when the firm had bought Dixie that they moved into car manufacturing and, by 1929, were producing their own BMW-badged models. Throughout the 1960s, BMW invested heavily to rebuild their pre-WW2 motor sporting image.
BMW's 6 Series coupes were little changed during the 1980s, being offered with three engine options; 2788cc 628CSi, 3430cc 635CSi or 3453cc M635CSi, the latter with 255bhp motor good for 158mph.
This 1985 Munich-built, right-hand drive CSi automatic has a two door body shell which, currently, is rated by the entrant as being in very good condition, as are metallic mist paintwork and grey cloth interior. Both 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic transmission are reportedly in very good order too.
The history file contains original hand and service booklets, the latter with ten dealer stamps, and six previous MOTs. The 53,200 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total for the coupe from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
