Mot Expiry: May 2007

Partially inspired by legendary New York importer Max Hoffman, the Giulietta Spider made its public debut at the 1956 Turin Motor Show. A singularly pretty design, the model's sleek lines were the work of Pininfarina. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and four-wheel drum brakes, it tipped the scales at approximately 860kg. Powered by Alfa's legendary DOHC four-cylinder engine allied to four-speed manual transmission, the Spider was both swift and surefooted. Updated alongside the rest of the Giulietta range in late 1959, it gained a 50mm longer wheelbase and consequently more cabin space. Officially phased out of production during 1962, a mere 16,000 or so are thought to have been made.
Finished in grey with red leather upholstery and a black double-duck hood, this particular left-hand drive example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (four-speed manual gearbox, steel wheels), "good / original" (1290cc engine, chassis, bodywork), "very good" (interior trim) or "as new" (tyres) condition. Reportedly entering the current ownership shortly after being "imported from its original Texan home in May 1991", 'YND 522A' is understood to have been retrimmed some fifteen years ago. Benefiting from a professional respray earlier this year, the Spider also boasts "a low voltage coil to give easy starting under all conditions" and "an electric fuel pump which works in tandem with the standard mechanical one". Apparently "used for holiday tours to Italy and France during the summer months" but kept garaged over winter, the car is thought to retain its "original US-market Lucas electrics and Motorola radio". Sporting several 'Giulietta Super' logos, this gorgeous Italian sportscar is offered for sale with "original Texan number plate / documentation", MOT certificate valid until May 4th 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until May 31st 2007.
