Lot details Registration No: TPX704M Chassis No: 1369112 Mot Expiry: Jan 2006
The Interceptor was born out of the demise of the Austin-Healey, which had been such a long running export success story for BMC, for whom Jensen had done much sub-contract work. The Midlands firm had already employed a US Chrysler V8 to power its GRP-bodied CV8 and, in 1966, came up with their new model based on the CV8, but with Italian-styled bodywork in steel, an FF version with Ferguson 4-wheel drive coming out at the same time.
This Interceptor first left Jensen’s West Bromwich works in 1973, the right-hand drive car having only been sparingly used in recent years for the occasional wedding since acquisition at one of our auctions in 1996. Only just prior to that, this Interceptor with the re-styled rear end had been a receipt of a three year restoration programme. Among work carried out then was the rebuilding of the engine, the automatic transmission, the brakes and the suspension. The carpets were renewed throughout and a new hood fitted.
Both the open bodywork and the red paintwork are described by the vendor as being in good current condition with the magnolia interior fair. The American 7212cc capacity eight-cylinder motor and the three-speed transmission are reportedly in excellent order, too, whilst the 16,910 miles displayed when entered for the sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage from new for this convertible, for which the latest MOT test pass certificate will be valid until next January.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has a manual hood and NOT power-operated as stated in the catalogue.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
