Lot details Registration No: 89 YNY Chassis No: H-BN7/3578 Mot Expiry: March 2004
The Heritage Certificate on file confirms that chassis H-BN7/3587, a rare BN7 2-seater originally built in August 1959, was one of just 157 such Austin-Healey 3000 Mk1s produced for the home market in right-hand drive form and was first supplied to dealers Barretts of Canterbury in September 1959. The next change of ownership recorded was in May 1975 when Wayne Ferguson Harris sold it to Richard Gardner, who undertook an extensive restoration completed by Sherwood Restorations between May and September 1997 from whom it was acquired by Fraser Robinson, passing into vendor ownership December 2000.
The refurbishment included a change to aluminium panels with wing vents by marque specialist Welch and repainting in Colorado Red. For historic motor sport participation, the 3-litre 6-cylinder engine was upgraded with Piper Fast Road spec cam, gas-flowed head converted for unleaded fuel, triple Webers and Janspeed six-branch manifold. Radiator, suspension and brakes were upgraded, competition clutch employed, gearbox replaced, overdrive rebuilt and heavy-duty battery, alternator and 72-spoke wires fitted.
Current overall condition of bodywork, paint, interior, engine, electrical, equipment and gearbox is reportedly very good. Included are tonneau cover and hood, both in tan and virtually unused, as well as sidescreens in bags. Spare fuel pump, dynamo, points and plugs are also included as are reprinted works manual and handbook. The 9424 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed to be the total mileage recorded since the rebuild. A hard top is also supplid with the car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
