The now world famous and Ford Motor Company owned Aston Martin only came about because of founder Lionel Martin winning his class in his souped-up Singer Ten at a 1913 Aston Clinton hillclimb, a stretch of public road in rural Buckinghamshire. In partnership with Robert Bamford, Bamford and Martin sold Singers and Calthorpes in Fulham and South Kensington. Their first car to carry the Aston Martin name took to the roads in 1921.
Being auctioned here is a 1972-manufactured V8 coupe, one of only 402 of this model produced by Aston Martin at their Newport Pagnell works from 1969-1972. We understand that the righthand drive fixed head, which has been fully waxoyl-treated, was in receipt of some light restoration work in 1989 and that the 3-speed automatic transmission was renewed approximately 4000 miles ago.
The chassis is said to be very good and the current condition of the 2-door bodywork and silver paintwork are described as excellent. The red interior is said still to be original and also very good. The 5340cc 8-cylinder engine and automatic transmission are reportedly in good order and the electrical equipment all claimed to be good too.
The 100,300 miles displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage from new. On file are old MOTs and the current certificate, which will not need renewing until next May, as well as refurbishment/service history bills detailing work carried out.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
