Lot details Registration No: EXT 633 Chassis No: 744042 Mot Expiry: Exempt
The Hudson chassis for this splendid-looking example of Noel Macklin's straight eight-engined masterpiece was despatched to Coachcraft on December 1, 1937, where it was fitted with their body No.973 (reference to which can be found on p.161 of John Dyson's book on the coachbuilder). However, it seems 'EXT 633' was not registered until the middle of the following year. Scroll forward, and the Fairmile was reputedly treated to a 2,000-hour chassis-up refurbishment by a Rolls-Royce engineer during the mid-'70s. Apparently in single ownership from 1977 to 2000, this right-hand drive Railton has subsequently benefited from a repaint, retrim and, as recently as two years ago, an engine overhaul. The vendor classifies the bodywork as 'very good', the White paintwork as good, the Blue interior trim as 'very nice' and the 4.2-litre engine and three-speed manual gearbox as 'working very well'. An apparently fine example of a rare breed.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
