Lot details Registration No: TVT 9L Chassis No: 1S1669 Mot Expiry: May 2011
The last E-Type Jaguar rolled off the production line in 1974, yet the model still has a unique ability to excite enthusiasts of all generations, its Malcolm Sayer-penned lines thought by many to be among the most striking ever to adorn a motor car. The Series 3 cars were introduced in 1971. With the exception of a handful of examples, they were all fitted with a new 5.3-litre V12 engine. The original (short) wheelbase was discontinued and the revised car offered only as Roadster (now based on the longer 2+2 floorpan) or 2+2 Coupe. Production of the Series 3 cars continued until the entire model range was superseded by the XJS.
The V12 Roadster offered was constructed in 1973 and features Red coachwork and a Black leather interior. The vendor sat in the car as a boy, knows its full history and has owned it for the last 21 years. The Jaguar was apparently treated to a bare metal respray in 1994 by Rolls-Royce specialists Scott Moncrieff. A very thorough engine overhaul ensued in 2003 (at a cost of £16,700), since when the unit has run for just 360 miles. We understand the XJ12 wheels were specified by the original owner. The only other non-standard items are the SU carburetters that replaced the original Zenith Stromberg items. We're informed that all body panels are original and, though it looks like a private plate, the registration number, `TVT 9L', is the one that came with the car. The E-Type has apparently been kept under cover in a garage and never used in the rain by its current keeper. It is now offered complete with original service book, owner's pack and most of the old MOTs. This very tidy, original car is taxed until the end of October and MOT'd into May.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
