Lot details Registration No: UN-REG Chassis No: DB6 2856 LN Mot Expiry: None
The first model to be engineered after the factory moved from Feltham to Newport Pagnell, the DB6 was launched at the 1965 Motor Show. Visually indebted to its DB5 predecessor, it boasted superior aerodynamics (courtesy of an effective Kamm tail) and a four inch longer wheelbase. In combination with a (marginally) raised roof line and revised rear suspension pick-up points this helped make the new arrival a credible four seater. Built using well-practised Touring Supperleggera techniques that saw hand-finished aluminium body panels grafted over a steel superstructure, its kerb weight was listed as just 1,466kg. Equipped with all round coil-sprung suspension, disc brakes and rack and pinion steering, it proved a suitably sporting drive. Powered by a reworked version of the fabulous Tadek Merak designed 3,995cc dohc straight-six engine, the desirable Vantage variant was quoted as developing 325bhp and 288lbft of torque. Fitted with a five-speed ZF manual gearbox as standard, it was reputedly capable of 148mph and 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds.
Finished by the works on July 4th 1966, this left-hand drive DB6 Vantage was sold new via American dealer Frank Millard Sports Cars on April 7th 1967. Shipped to Switzerland some twenty-two years later, it has resided in the collection since 1995. Showing an unwarranted 64,199 miles on its odometer, it benefits from factory fitted air conditioning, manual transmission, chrome wire wheels and electric windows. Treated to some 33,800 NLG worth of fettling (engine overhaul etc) by Dutch Jaguar specialist Almelo from 1996-1997, its history file also includes invoices from Roos Engineering of Bern and AML factory correspondence.
