1985 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

Lot details
Registration No: C452YRF
Chassis No: WDB1070422AO3552
Mot Expiry: April 2005

When Mercedes-Benz bring out a new SL roadster, with hood and/or hardtop option, you can be sure that the model range is going to be around for a very long time. Not only will the SL remain virtually unchanged in Mercedes dealer showrooms for several years, but also examples will be on the roads for decades after that.
The rounded 190SL was replaced with the wider and more spacious 230SL in 1963 - and, joined by 250 and 280 versions, stayed around until 1971 when the 280SL replacement arrived. Larger, heavier, some would say slightly less sporting looking in appearance, the 280SL was nonetheless a far more effective high speed motorway express. Additional 350 and 450 SLs, powered by S Class motors, were added to the catalogue. In this shape, the SL continued well into the 1980s, albeit with different engine options.

This 1985 280SL, a righthand drive soft-top on alloys, has only had two owners, the last acquiring the Stuttgart-built roadster in 1989. On file is M-B main dealer service history for the first 82,298 miles, the 100,300 mileage reading when entered for this auction believed by the vendor to be the genuine total for the car from new. Following a period in dry storage, disc brake pads and fluids have been renewed and the car successfully MOT tested in April. Overall condition of bodyshell, blue paintwork, cream leather and cloth interior, 2.8-litre six and 3-speed automatic transmission are described by the entrant as good.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
