  • Desirable Celebration model, being one of just 4,000 produced
  • Modest mileage of only 82,000 miles from new and just four former keepers
  • Serviced by the supplying dealership, Merritts Jaguar of Amersham, from new until 2006
  • Accompanied by a history file including the original book pack in the Jaguar wallet

Launched in September, 1975, as a replacement for the E-Type, the XJ-S could only cheat time for so long and, in 1991, parent company Ford thoroughly reworked the luxury Grand Tourer at a cost of £50 million. Incorporating some 40 per cent. new panels, the rejuvenated model range sported a revised grille, headlamps, tail-lights, bumpers and rear wings. Its cabin, meanwhile, gained a new walnut facia and improved sports seats. The new version was powered by either a punchy straight-six (3,980cc) or a soporific V12 (5,343cc) engine; the former DOHC unit developed some 223bhp and 283lb. ft. of torque. Featuring a five-speed manual transmission as standard, the four-litre XJS (Ford dropped the hyphen) could also be had with a four-speed automatic gearbox. Capable of over 140mph, the model proved to be a refined and relaxing drive, and production continued until 1996. The Celebration special edition represented the XJS's final update. Its unique specification was in recognition of sixty years of the Jaguar marque and included chromed rear view mirrors and headlight surrounds; diamond-cut alloy wheels; wood trim for the steering wheel and gear lever; and seats featuring embossed Jaguar 'leapers' and contrasting piping.

This desirable XJS Celebration model has been wonderfully well preserved over its thirty years, with just five keepers from new and a warranted mileage of 82,000. Having been supplied new through Merritts Jaguar of Amersham, it has always been beautifully maintained while on the road, being serviced annually by Merritts up to 2006, when it had covered 73,393 miles. The second owner kept it from 1998 to 2020, but it was taken off the road in 2008 at around 79,800 miles, and apart from a wake-up in 2015, it remained in hibernation until 2020, when it was recommissioned for the new owner, with a service by Chiltern of Bovingdon Ltd.

Besides the service, Bovingdon’s work included replacing or refurbishing the front brake callipers, replacing the offside front wheel bearing, and renewing suspension bushes where necessary, and applying fresh underseal. In 2021, the Jag received a new ABS sensor, plus a new radiator for £600 from Norman Motors; in 2023, it underwent £1,500 of work including three-stage paint correction, ceramic coating, wheel and glass refurbishment, and an interior valet. Most recently serviced in March 2026 by an independent garage at 81,400 miles, this superb XJS is supplied with the complete book pack (including driver’s handbook, care guide and stamped service book), assorted invoices and previous M.O.T.s, plus a current MOT until March 2027.
