Lot details Registration No: UHH129G Chassis No: GC-DL-5661 Mot Expiry: June 2013
Intended to replace the Austin-Healey 3000, the MGC was introduced in the autumn of 1967. While early reports criticised its 'nose heavy' handling, later ones were much kinder and, with 145bhp on tap, the model could complete the 0-60mph dash in 10 seconds and achieve 120mph flat out. Nevertheless it was axed in 1969 after just 4,544 Roadsters and 4,458 GTs had been made. That lack of period sales success has only served to make the model ever more collectible today.
This 'home market' Snowberry White GT example has had just two owners from new. Both of them have been ladies, with the current keeper acquiring 'UHH 129G' privately in 1971. She employed the MG as a general runabout for 10 years before treating it to some restoration work. This included the fitment of new wings, bonnet and one sill. The gearbox and overdrive unit were also overhauled, a new clutch and oil cooler fitted and the radiator refurbished. For the last 15 years, the GT has been reserved for summer use only; hence the apparently low mileage of 66,425. The vendor currently regards the bodywork and paintwork as "fairly good", the Black interior trim as "worn with age", the six-cylinder engine as "sound" and the manual transmission as being "in good order".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
