Lot details Registration No: TFD400G Chassis No: GCN1/2740G Mot Expiry: May 2012
A direct development of the humble MGB, the now much admired MGC was introduced in the autumn of 1967, yet phased out a mere two years later after just 4,544 Roadsters and 4,458 GTs had been made. Forty plus years on, that lack of period sales success only serves to make the surviving examples ever more collectible.
The tidy-looking right-hand drive Roadster on offer was manufactured in 1968 and sports Red coachwork teamed with Black leather upholstery. The previous owner, Roy Thompson of Northampton, acquired the C in 1984 and invested considerable sums of money in maintaining and developing it over the course of the ensuing twenty-five years. According to the MG's comprehensive records, most of the work was entrusted to Jaguar E-Type specialist Barry Hodson Motorsport of Melton Mowbray. The many bills cover everything from general service work and the annual MOTs (for which there are twenty-three old certificates on file), to major overhauls of the engine and gearbox and body repairs and the related paintwork. A 1992 invoice for £507.95 concerns an extensive overhaul of the car's suspension and the fitting of handling kits to both the front and rear. Since assuming ownership of 'TFD 400G', the vendor has kept up the maintenance schedule and recent new parts include: front brake discs and pads; engine oil and filter; fan belt; exhaust mounting; spare tyre; plugs, points, condenser, distributor cap and rotor arm, and a set of AC Cobra wheel spinners. The MG currently displays an unwarranted 60,251 miles and is felt by the vendor to have "very good" bodywork, paintwork and overdrive gearbox and "good" interior trim. It is being sold with the aforementioned history file and an MOT into May 2012, and comes complete with such niceties as a woodrim steering wheel and chrome luggage rack.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
