Lot details Registration No: OHW444F Chassis No: GCN1-248 Mot Expiry: March 2005
New in 1967 was the MGC, seen as a successor for the Austin-Healey 3000, which was beginning to age in the showroom, and employing a new 3-litre six-cylinder engine shared with the Austin 3-Litre in the B bodyshell. Offered is a 1968-built C roadster, which, though in receipt of a total restoration to a high standard some years ago, still has all major components and original identification numbers intact. On file are various receipts detailing refurbishment work carried out to engine, gearbox, rear axle, suspension, steering, brakes, interior, which was renewed to original specification, and brightwork, which was replated or replaced.
The current owner tells us that, since acquisitions at one of our auctions six years ago, this two-seater has covered 3,600 `dry' miles and that the 73,811 mileage displayed when entered for this auction is believed by him to be the genuine total for the car from new. Three years ago, he says, OHW 444F was second placed in an MG concours.
Currently, righthand drive bodyshell, both chassis and panels, is claimed to be in excellent shape as are Old English White paintwork and black leather interior. Both 2912cc six and four-speed manual gearbox, which has the benefit of an overdrive, are reportedly in excellent order, too, and the electrical equipment is said to be in excellent condition. The radio is a period-correct Radiomobile. Comprehensive service history includes all old MOTs, which validate the mileages over the year, while the current certificate will be valid until next March.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has covered only 3,600 miles with the present owner and not 36,000 as per the catalogue description. A mohair hood is also with this car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
