This Cooper S was extensively rally-prepared when new and, with `Works' engine, contested the 1967 Motoring News series in the hands of Paul Rogers and Rod Palmer. According to Peter Robinson's records, they were car 44 on the Welsh Marches event and finished 17th on the ensuing Fildyke rally. `PKX 602D' then passed to Henry Hardiment who installed a different powerplant, and to Peter Marr who had the same unit modified by Blydenstein Engineering. The vendor acquired the car from John Adair in 1995 and completely refurbished it with the emphasis on safety and reliability. The original bodyshell was sympathetically restored by Chris Spennewyn, while MED reworked the engine (Piper 276 camshaft, 1.5-in SU H4 carburettors, relinered/rebored to 1293cc) and S gearbox (new bearings, synchro, 2nd gear). Boasting a 3:1 four-pin differential and full FIA rollcage/seats/harness belts, `PKX 602D' has since contested two MCR `Minis to Monte' and been exhibited by the Mini Cooper Register at the NEC and Regent Street.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
