Lot details Registration No: KAS 885 Chassis No: 406/5334 Mot Expiry: Jan 2005
The Bristol Aeroplane Company's move into car manufacturing dates from 1946 when the first 400 was produced, their very aerodynamic and streamlined motor car being launched into a post-WW2 exotic car starved market at the 1947 Geneva Motor Show. Unlike most of their competitors from those early post-war days however, Bristol have survived, still producing and being able to sell what are virtually all bespoke hand-built cars for an extremely discerning and loyal following.
The 1957-introduced 406 heralded an entirely new Bristol body shape which established a styling theme for subsequent model numbers up to the 411. Offered here is one such 406 which was handmade to the highest quality at the former Bristol aircraft works at Filton in 1960, since when the sports saloon resided in the UK until the 1980s when, we understand, it was restored prior to going to Switzerland. Returning to the UK again in 2002, the right-hand drive car from the pre-Chrysler engined and automatic transmission era has been part of an East Midlands enthusiast's collection.
Current condition of chassis and bodywork as well as paintwork in two-tone silver and beige interior are described as being good with Bristol 6-cylinder motor of 2.2-litre capacity, 4-speed manual transmission and electrical equipment all reportedly in good order too. The 2452 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the total mileage driven since refurbishment. The MOT was renewed in January.
PLEASE NOTE: This car needs a new battery.
